TRENTON, N.J. (AP) – Hurricane Igor continues to whip up waves and create rip currents along the Jersey shore even though it’s hundreds of miles away.

The National Weather Service on Monday issued a high surf advisory all along the New Jersey coastline.

Forecasters said swells of six to nine feet were possible and a few breakers could reach 10 feet. The swells will continue to produce dangerous rip currents through Monday evening.

A similar advisory is in effect for the New York coastline. The National Weather service said there is a high risk of “life-threatening” rip currents and beach erosion in Brooklyn and Queens, and on Long Island.

Swimmers were advised to use caution. Few beaches have lifeguards because summer ends on Thursday.
